September 14, 2012
Mark Chapman, the convicted killer of John Lennon, has written a letter to President Ilham Aliyev, where he was asking to be granted an Azerbaijani citizenship.

Did YOU know about it?

Purpose: To let as many people as possible know about that.
Solution: On September 13, 2012, a letter by Mark Chapman appeared on Ilham Aliyev’s personal page on Facebook. The same day the above letter was posted to the sites of the Washington Post, BBC Russian Service, CNN, Kommersant. In the letter the killer of John Lennon was applying to the Azerbaijani president for citizenship. The audio version of the letter was being broadcast on the radio. (Audio version playing)
A letter from the killer has literally exploded the web. For two days a huge number of news and information sites in different languages were writing about it citing reliable sources. The letter has been widely discussed on social networks, on blogs, Armenian hackers have broken into dozens of Azerbaijani sites, including the official sites of the Azerbaijani president, the ministry of defence and the ministry of foreign affairs, and posted the letter from the Lennon’s killer on their homepage. 48 hours later there appeared demotivators reading: “Which is more incredible, the letter from Chapmen to president Aliev or extradition and pardon of Safarov?”
Results: During 48 hours there were 87.000 views only on Facebook, more than 62.000 likes, more than 45.000 re-shares, dozens of references in news, articles in newspapers, note of protest served by Azerbaijani authorities to YouTube, and, correspondingly, blocking of the official Radio Van’s channel on YouTube. However, THE MOST IMPORTANT IS THAT IT HAS FINALLY BECOME PUBLICLY KNOWN…
